How to use and label custom fields for works

We provide four large multi-language custom fields for works on the Other tab, for example for condition reports, a work introduction and more. As usual the fields can be labeled accordingly in the ARTBUTLER preferences.

What is a custom field?

Custom fields are fields without a designated purpose that you can use for all your information having no related field in ARTBUTLER. The fields can be labelled accordingly so everybody can see clearly what content should be entered.

Label a custom field

You can easily set the name of a custom field. Go to artbutler > Preferences > User defined fields… and enter the desired name for your custom field. If you can’t see the label in the record please close and re-open it to reflect your settings.

With the Edit… button you may specify a pre-defined list of values for the single-line fields, separated by semikolon. A drop-down with these values will be added to the field so you can easily select one of those values, e.g. for an art epoche or a genre: Portrait; Still Life; Landscape; …

Did you know that this applies to the contact's salutation and letter salutation fields as well? Just enter a list of standard salutations here and you can choose from a drop-down when filling in a contact record.

Enter content into multi-language custom fields

The multi-language fields have a small language drop-down menu on the top right corner where you can choose a language for the content; this way it is possible to enter content in different languages. When exporting these fields the text for the selected content language (as set in the related main menu of ARTBUTLER) is printed automatically.
