Templates are used to create all kinds of documents from within ARTBUTLER.
Here you will learn how to edit the templates you downloaded from the template pool to suit you.
1. Requirements
Templates used to create documents in MS Word, PDF, OpenOffice format from ARTBUTLER are standard OpenOffice documents. You will need Open Office in order to use and modify them. Placeholders for your data are used within the templates. By downloading the full list of placeholders you will be able to customise your templates as you wish.
2. Finding the Right Template
Browse through the Template Pool where we offer a growing number of ready-to-use templates for many different purposes. You can use them right away as they are, or add your logo, change fonts, or add and remove information to be printed. This is explained further below.
3. Placeholders
The templates use placeholders to define what should be printed where. A placeholder is a short code added within the template to tell ARTBUTLER what information needs to be exported, e.g: ${w.ArtistFirstLast} will export the artist’s first and last name.
Once you have your list of placeholders, you can begin editing the template examples to suit you, removing and adding in new placeholders so that your documents will show exactly what you want them to.
4. Changing Fonts and Formatting
Like with any other document, you can edit the font and formatting of a template at any time and in the same way. Just be careful when formatting placeholders that you always change the whole placeholder [including the dollar sign and brackets] and don’t miss anything, as this would affect the changes you make.
If you want to change the font of an entire template:
- In Open Office go to Format > Styles and Formatting
- In the pop up menu rightclick on Default > Modify and go to the Font tab
- Now you can edit the font for the entire document.
Page margins are set in the Format > Page… > Page section.
5. Adding a Header / Footer with Logo and Address
Open the template in OpenOffice and simply paste your logo or address into the header or footer part of your document. Headers and footers are printed on all pages of the document created.
If you don't see the header or footer section in OpenOffice already, just go to Insert > Header/Footer.
